Do they stick to a magnet or not? Valuable items containing high grade gold, gold, and platinum are not magnetic. So simply run a refrigerator magnet over your items. If your jewellery sticks to the magnet it is most likely not real gold.
Check for a hallmark - A lot, but not all, real gold items are hallmarked. Usually the hallmark, a small stamp, will be in a discrete place such as the inside of a ring. Unfortunately not all real gold items are hallmarked. So if possible please try using the magnet test. Don't worry if you are in doubt as we do test all items you send just to make sure!

Your items are valued by experts who need to be able to see your items in order to weigh and test their gold content in order for us to give you our best offer. This isn't something that can be done over the phone.
